West End Porchfest Returns September 18
Porches throughout the West End will become impromptu stages on Sunday, September 18, for the 3rd Annual West End Porchfest from 1 – 6 pm. Porchfest was first held in Ithaca, NY in 2007 as a way to build community bonds and showcase local musicians. Since then it has spread to over 130 communities in the United States and Canada. The first West End Porchfest was held in 2019 with 20 bands playing at 20 locations. After a year off due to the COVID pandemic, the event returned last year.

An interview with the Green Party candidate for District 1 State Senate
Having petitioned his way onto the November ballot, 29-year-old Hartford native, activist, and educator Michael Oretade is challenging Democratic State Senator John Fonfara – who is 66 and running for his 14th term – in a bid to represent the people of South Hartford and a portion of Wethersfield at the State Capitol. It’s a “David vs. Goliath” effort, an uphill battle, but newcomer Oretade is optimistic, and recently spoke with me about his vision and goals for District 1.
